The Impact: Evan Boudreaux is a Boilermaker

EvanBoudreaux2When Evan Boudreaux decided to grad transfer from Dartmouth, Xavier and Purdue were on his short list of teams he may want to play for. Boudreaux took visits to both schools in early December and decided Xavier was the best fit for him. Xavier would go on to have an excellent season, winning 29 games and earning a one seed. But with winning comes national attention, and head coach Chris Mack caught the eye of Louisville. Just nine days after Xavier was eliminated from the NCAA tournament, Mack accepted the head coaching position at Louisville. Boudreaux then had a decision to make, either to stay with Xavier, or entertain other offers. He acted quickly and decided to re-open his recruitment. Less than 48 hours later, he committed to Purdue.

“Alright third times the charm,” Boudreaux said in a tweet. “Very excited to announce that I will be attending Purdue University next year! #boilerup,”

Boudreaux had a fantastic first two years in the Ivy League, averaging 17.6 points and 9.5 rebounds a contest. What’s unique about him is that most grad transfers only play one year with their new school, but Boudreaux has two years of eligibility remaining. Boudreaux is a 6-foot-8 power forward that can really stretch the floor. In fact, he shot 37.4% from three at Dartmouth and is a dead-eye shooter from midrange.

Purdue needed a lot of frontcourt help after losing star seniors Vincent Edwards and Isaac Haas. Matt Haarms will benefit from an offseason of working on his offensive game and will likely fill the role that Haas played. Boudreaux will almost certainly start at the power forward position, unless Jacquil Taylor or Grady Eifert take massive strides forward. Nojel Eastern and Ryan Cline will probably occupy the wing positions. Purdue’s outlook for next season will rely heavily on if All-American Carsen Edwards decides to return for his junior season. Edwards submitted his name into the NBA Draft pool, but elected not to hire an agent at this time meaning he could still return to Purdue. If Carsen Edwards does not return, Purdue will explore the grad transfer market for a point guard.

  1. 3, maybe 5 years before the ‘ville fans (big donors), frustrated with the FBI probe and resulting ncaa sanctions release Mack.
